Matisse's collage work transformed paint and paper into a colorful world of jungles, goddesses, oceans, and symbols. He referred to it as drawing with scissors.
Calder pioneered the design of kinetic sculptures. Marcel Duchamp gave them the name "mobiles" - a French pun meaning both "motion" and "motive."
